Perfectly Seared Ahi with Miso Glaze

Ingredients

  • 2 sushi-grade ahi tuna steaks (5–6 oz each)

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or neutral high-heat oil

For the Miso Glaze

  • 2 tbsp white miso paste

  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp low-sodium tamari or soy sauce

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil

  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger

  • 1 clove garlic, grated

Instructions

1. Make the glaze

Whisk together the miso paste, honey or maple syrup, tamari, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic until smooth. Set aside.

The glaze should be silky and balanced — salty, sweet, and deeply savory.

2. Heat the pan

Place a skillet over medium-high heat and let it get hot — really hot.
Add the avocado oil once the pan is shimmering.
